If you’re involved in the creation of stuff that people consume, you know that your impact on the environment grows daily, rapidly, constantly - and that begins to weigh you down after a while.
The thing is, we all need to clothe ourselves, feed ourselves, have the odd treat every know and then, so as producers we have a choice to make. Do we carry on producing and look for ways of lightening our load, do we just give up and go home, or do we greenwash our way out of these problems and promise everyone that everything is going to be ok?
As an independent distillery, we only have so much money and resources that we can invest to make our daily production as carbon light as possible. But we are doing everything we can. Our new whisky launch sees us use a new bottle that uses 60% less CO2 in production, weighs 48% less than our previous bottle (so it’s more efficient to move around) and has a cork stopper which is, by the happenstance of Mother Nature herself, carbon negative.
So when it came to designing our refill program (every distillery’s gotta have one, right?), instead of demanding that our friends needed to buy a dedicated bottle or container that could only be used to fill one brand’s gin, vodka or rum, we decided to let them use ANY existing 70CL spirits bottle. Simply put, the word already has enough bottles - they’ve suffered enough, now fill them with the good stuff!
Here’s how it works:
You bring any 70CL spirits bottle that has been cleaned at home, choose East London Gin, Vodka or Rum, hand the bottle over to be filled, we apply our paper based label over the top along with a fresh duty stamp and…that’s that.
Launching this weekend (May 14th, 2022) in both our shops (at the distillery in Bow and Borough Market) - opening times and details here.
